# Ceiling Fan Installation

A ceiling fan is heavier than most light fixtures, and it moves. If the box in the ceiling is only rated for a light, the fan can wobble, loosen over time, or come down. That is the first thing we look at when we come out. We check what is already there: the wiring, the switch, and the box. If the ceiling has no fan-rated box or bracing, we add one. We have installed spreader bars and new boxes where none existed before. We then mount the fan, wire it to the switch or remote, and test every speed and light. If you have a fan on the porch or in a room that has never had one, we can run new wiring for it. We also replace old fans that hum, wobble, or no longer work. If something else turns up while we are in the ceiling, such as a bad switch or a faulty connection, we tell you before we do anything extra. ## Common questions

Can you put a fan where there is only a light fixture now?

Usually yes. We check the existing wiring and replace the box with one rated for a fan. If the ceiling needs bracing, we add it.

Do you install fans I bought myself?

Yes. Bring the fan and its hardware, and we will install it. We can also look at your ceiling beforehand so the right box and switch are ready.

Can you add a wall switch for the fan?

Yes. We can set up separate control of the fan and light, or install a remote-style control, depending on the fan and the wiring in your home.
