Hot Tub / Spa Electrical Hookup

We wire hot tubs and spas on a dedicated circuit, with the disconnect and protection they need.

A hot tub is one of the heavier electrical loads you can add outside your house, and water makes mistakes more dangerous. It needs its own circuit, the right wire size, and proper ground-fault protection. This is not a plug-it-in job. We start by looking at your panel and at where the tub will sit. We check that the panel has room for the load, then plan the wire run from the panel to the spa. We install the dedicated breaker, the cable or conduit, and a disconnect within reach of the tub as required. Then we connect the spa and test the protection. Before we begin, get the manufacturer's electrical specs for your tub, since they set the amperage and voltage. If the panel cannot carry the extra load, we will tell you and explain the options, which may include a panel upgrade. We are licensed and insured, and our work carries a warranty on workmanship, parts and labor. Contact us to set up an estimate.

What this covers

  • Dedicated circuit and breaker for the spa
  • Wire or conduit run from the panel to the tub location
  • Spa disconnect installed within reach of the tub
  • Ground-fault protection and bonding
  • Panel capacity check before work starts
  • Final connection to the spa and a full test
  • Wiring for above-ground pool equipment on request

Common questions

Does my hot tub need its own circuit?

Yes. Hot tubs need a dedicated circuit sized to the manufacturer's specs, with ground-fault protection and a nearby disconnect.

Will my panel handle a hot tub?

Often it can, but it depends on how much capacity is left. We check the panel before quoting and tell you if an upgrade is needed.

Should I buy the tub before you quote?

It helps. The tub's spec sheet tells us the voltage and amperage. If you are still choosing, send us the models you are considering.
